Here, on the wall of Frank's house, is the MSNBC projection that Senator Barack Obama is the President Elect of the United States.

Several of us gathered at Frank's house to watch the election results come in. What a great group of folks. We enjoyed each other's company, predictions, voting stories, food and spirits, and Sam the dog! As the evening moved on the expected results came in. Red states went red, blue states went blue and those expected to be too close to call were. Pennsylvania goes blue, Illinois goes blue, Florida is looking good, but too close to call still. And then, Ohio went blue. A cheer went up in the room, Sam barked his enthusiasm, and things started looking up. Of course then we had to start thinking of all the scenarios that could make positive, or negative changes. We continued to watch, speculate, share more stories, and wait. Probably around 9:30 or so we got the news that our incumbant Senator, Elizabeth Dole, was out. Beaten by Kay Hagan, North Carolina has a Democrat in the Senate now. Thank God. Next up, Bev Perdue is elected the first female governor of NC. Another good thing. More polls close, more electoral votes go to Obama, McCain gets some, and Grant Park in Chicago is filling up fast. We're getting more and more excited, hoping that NC, Virginia, Florida, or Indiana will turn blue. Nothing yet. No sign of either candidate either. Lots of speculation from our TV commentators. Another round of drinks and it's getting close to 11:00 PM. At 11:00 PM the west coast polls will close and could indicate that Barack Obama will take a significant lead and reach the required 270 votes needed to become our president elect. As we watch the MSNBC clock tick down, we join with Atlanta and New York crowds, counting down the hour as if it were midnight! The excitement is intense! At 11:00 PM California, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii turn blue and Obama's numbers skyrocket! We're on our feet, cheering, yelling, high-fiving, hugging, crying, on our phones to our friends and families, and staring all the while at the television. Sam's pretty excited too! Though nothing is official yet, it's a done deal for those of us watching and the 1000s present at rallies all over the country. Frank uncorks the champagne and the bubbly flows! Soon enough Sen. McCain conceeds the election to Sen. Obama. Close to midnight Sen. Obama and his family make an appearance in Chicago and we listen to an inspiring and articulate speech.
Soon after the party breaks up and we head our separate ways, going out into the night hopeful for the future and still giddy from the excitement. North Carolina was still too close to call (red or blue) and still is today, even after 2:00 PM. With luck we'll know where we stand tonight and we'll be blue. Obama has a slight lead in the TarHeel state.
I've been trying to keep an eye on Proposition 8 in CA, the proposition that would ban gay marriages. It looks like it'll pass (a bad thing in my opinon). Tsk. Tsk.
